Abstract:

The electrochemical oxidation of sulfamethazine (SMZ) has been studied at a multi-walled carbon nanotubes modified glassy carbon electrode (MWCNT-GCE) by cyclic voltammetry. This modified electrode (MWCNT-GCE) exhibited excellent electrocatalytic behavior toward the oxidation of SMZ as evidenced by the enhancement of the oxidation peak current and the shift in the anodic potential to less positive values (170 mV) in comparison with the bare GCE. The formal potential, E0', of SMZ is pH dependent with a slope of 54 mV per unit of pH, close to the anticipated Nerstian value of 59 mV for a 2-electron and 2-proton oxidation process. A detailed analysis of cyclic voltammograms gave fundamental electrochemical parameters including the electroactive surface coverage (Г), the transfer coefficient (a), the heterogeneous rate constant (ks). Under the selected conditions, the peak current shows two dynamic linear ranges of 10-200 mM and 300-3000 mM with the detection limit of 6.1 mM. The method was successfully applied to analyze SMZ in serum sample

Electrochemical Detection of Sudan I Using a Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotube/Chitosan Composite Modified Glassy Carbon Electrode

In this work, a simple and sensitive electrochemical method was developed to determine Sudan I by cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry using a glassy carbon electrode modified with a chitosan/carbon nanotube composite. In cyclic voltammetry, Sudan I exhibited a well-defined oxidation peak located at 0.72 V at the multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/chitosan-modified GCE. The d...

Electrochemical Behavior of Norfloxacin and Its Determination at Poly(methyl red) Film Coated Glassy Carbon Electrode

A poly(methyl red) film-modified glassy carbon electrode (PMRE) was fabricated for determination of norfloxacin (NFX). The electrochemical behavior of NFX was investigated and a well-defined oxidation peak with high sensitivity was observed at the film electrode. PMRE greatly enhanced the oxidation peak current of NFX owing to the extraordinary properties of poly(methyl red) film. Based on this...

Electrocatalysis at a Thin Multi-Wall Carbon Nanotube Film Modified Glassy Carbon Electrode

A sensitive and selective amperometric procedure, based on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with a thin multi-wall carbon nanotube (MWNT) film, for the determination of ascorbic acid (AA) was developed. The modified electrode showed excellent electrocatalytic activity towards the oxidation of AA. The oxidation potential of AA shifted negatively by as much as 460 mV to –18 mV (vs. SCE) a...

Synergistic Effect of ZnO Nanoparticles and Carbon Nanotube and Polymeric Film on Electrochemical Oxidation of Acyclovir

A simple and selective carbon paste electrode has been developed for the electrochemicaldetermination of acyclovir (ACV). This electrode was designed by incorporation of multiwalledcarbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and ZnO nanoparticles into the carbon paste matrix, and then poly (o-aminophenol; OAP) film were subsequently electropolymerized on it. Thesurface structure of nanoparticles were characterize...
